Last updated: October 2026
Governed by the Allied Health Professions Act (Act 63 of 1982), AHPCSA / HPCSA Ethical Rules, the National Health Act (Act 61 of 2003), the Medical Schemes Act (Act 131 of 1998), the Consumer Protection Act (CPA, Act 68 of 2008 Section 17), and the Electronic Communications and Transactions Act (ECTA, Act 25 of 2002 Section 43).
1. Clinical Information Disclaimer & Medical Emergency Protocol (AHPCSA / HPCSA Ethical Rules)
All information, condition guides, and pre-appointment preparation checklists published on https://drbkhumalo.co.za are provided for general educational purposes and South African patient orientation only. Nothing on this website constitutes a clinical diagnosis, treatment guarantee, or practitioner-patient relationship prior to an in-person clinical history and physical examination by Dr Bongeka Khumalo (AHPCSA Reg. No. A12499).
Emergency Notice: Neither our website enquiry form, email (drbongekakhumalo@gmail.com), nor WhatsApp line (063 265 1223) is monitored for acute medical emergencies. If you experience sudden loss of bladder or bowel control, new numbness around the groin or buttocks (saddle anaesthesia), rapidly progressing limb weakness, severe chest pain, or acute trauma following a motor vehicle collision or fall, proceed immediately to your nearest hospital emergency unit or call 10177, 112, Netcare 911 (082 911), or ER24 (084 124).
2. Appointments, Satellite Clinic Bookings & Cancellation Policy (CPA Section 17)
Consultations at our primary Durban rooms (Spark Lifestyle Centre, 98 Cannon Avenue, 5th Floor Medical Suite, Overport), our weekly Monday clinic at KwaDukuza Mall (Stanger), and our monthly satellite outreach clinics in Empangeni, Pongola, Jozini, Ulundi, Mthatha, and Matatiele are scheduled by appointment via telephone or WhatsApp on 063 265 1223.
In accordance with Section 17 of the Consumer Protection Act (Act 68 of 2008), we kindly request at least 24 hours' advance notice if you need to reschedule or cancel your appointment — particularly for monthly regional satellite clinics where travel and room allocations are arranged in advance. In compliance with CPA Section 17(5), no cancellation fee is ever charged where a patient is unable to attend due to hospitalisation, sudden illness, or death.
3. Consultation Fees, Medical Aid Rules & Payment Terms (National Health Act Section 53 & Medical Schemes Act)
Payment is due at the time of consultation via Debit/Credit Card, EFT, Cash, or valid Medical Aid claim. Dr Bongeka Khumalo Chiropractic Practice (BHF Practice No. 1029355) accepts most South African medical schemes, including Discovery Health, GEMS, Bonitas, Momentum, Bestmed, Medihelp, Medshield, Fedhealth, Bankmed, Sizwe Hosmed, UKZN Medical Scheme, Sasolmed, POLMED (Marine option), and SAMWUMED.
Specific Scheme Rules: Patients remain responsible for knowing their individual plan benefits and savings balances. Please note that SAMWUMED requires a General Practitioner (GP) referral letter for chiropractic cover, and POLMED covers chiropractic consultations on the POLMED Marine option. Should a medical scheme reject or short-pay a claim due to exhausted savings, waiting periods, or missing referral letters, the patient (or main member) remains legally liable for settling the account.
4. Informed Consent & Patient Disclosure Responsibilities (National Health Act Sections 6–8 & 19)
In terms of Sections 6 to 8 of the National Health Act (Act 61 of 2003), no manual spinal manipulation, peripheral joint mobilisation, myofascial dry needling, TENS electrotherapy, Activator adjustment, or PNF stretching is performed without explaining the clinical findings, proposed modality, material risks, and alternatives in plain language and obtaining your informed consent.
To ensure clinical safety, patients must accurately disclose all relevant medical history prior to treatment — including pregnancy, use of anticoagulant (blood-thinning) medication, bleeding disorders, cardiac pacemakers, osteoporosis, previous spinal or joint surgery, or recent trauma.
